Two-Trait System Reference
A downloadable game
This free reference focuses on the experimental design of a two-trait system for roleplaying games.
Think Slayer / Wanderer, Warrior / Nun, Old / Guard, or in the case of the Draculola game, Kid / Monster. Each trait represents a thematic element of the game, something that matters when players roll to determine an outcome. Other aspects of the game aid thematic play, from a hit-point-like pool to currency for player agency and referee influence.
This reference provides a basis for you to make your own two-trait games.
The reference contains mechanics, notes on why some elements are as they are, and hints for using the mechanics to make your own games. I intend to expand this reference as creations using it expand the mechanical possibilities.
I made this version of the rules so it's easy to transfer to other games I want to make. I figured others could use it, too. Therefore, I annotated it and published it. The system notes show what I was thinking when making the Draculola game and some process on the Slayer / Wanderer game as it progresses.
Again, it's free.
I've allowed for donations, but you don't need to pay anything to download it. And I've licensed the system via a Creative Commons Attribution International License 4.0. It's yours to tinker with and talk about.
